HAMMER HUMOR

I just came across this on the V&M website.
As one who spent years hammering on metal.... it gave me a chuckle.
There are days when your hammer certainly did seem to have it's own personality.

These were made by featured V&M artist Roy Mackey.

More Gas for the Fringe and drippy chain trend

I often look to the art world for inspiration -and have been yelled at by many a gallery guard for snapping the odd photograph to remember a piece by.  These of course make me think of the fringe trend that you see all over the place right now.  I've posted two of my many favorites below- It's hard to call this a "trend" as it never seems to go away.  I've been doing drippy chain earrings for clients as long as I've been designing jewelry, but you always have to find a new way to do it and I like the combination of color- thread and tacking to stations.  Makes me think of the thread paintings of the 70's as well.

Shaky diamonds anyone? More Gebrueder-Schaffrath

Not sure how I feel about this one- it's a cool concept for certain
Check out the site to see it in motion.

If I ever needed a new engagement ring

I have a lovely tension set engagement ring by the late Stephen Kretchmer and I love it dearly-
that said-if I was ever going to get another diamond- I think I'd be looking up this lovely designer.

It brings me back to my RISD roots- very minimal- inventive settings
all around amazing craftsmanship.

Thank you Arman for making pearls cool

SIMPLY PUT--STUNNING.

Couture Design Awards in Vegas

I can't believe this was the second runner up.  Arman Sarkisyan is my hero.  His work is always amazing --dark and magical--exquisitely crafted with a level of creativity that can only be called extreme.

OMG- Let me count the ways this is just wrong.

  1. To start it is simply gross.
  2. How did a white cat make black and gray hair balls?  Is there a hairball sweat shop someplace?
  3. How many hair balls can one cat produce? See note above about hair ball sweat shops.
  4. Hair ball awareness?  How can you not be aware when your pet is hacking one up?
  5. Exactly how/ who  does one get to "finish" the hair ball so that it is round?  My cat's hair balls are more sausage shaped.
This is a moment when FB really really needs a "don't like" button.

I came across these beautiful images while- ahem- avoiding going to my day job.
Artist Juliana Santacruz Herrera has taken to the streets of Paris to repair unsightly potholes and cracks with braids and braids of colorful yarn.  Reposted from Honestly.....WTF.

HYSTERICAL-this kind of humor is right up my alley.

I wish I could package my MMW pieces with this stuff!
www.thinkofthe.com is one of the greatest sites I've come across lately.
Super smart.  Check it out!

LAYER LAYER LAYER

I love this trend- it leves the fashion playing field- and offers everyone the chance to play around.
The sentimentality of a thread friendship bracelet up against something from your Gram's jewelry box-a vintage find- the more the merrier.  I'm a big fan of the many little to make big- balance of hard and soft, color vs. metal, bling against naturals, bright punches and neutrals.  The end look is always in flux-moving and changing.
